Rogue Rabbit Cafe Pty Ltd is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Chef (1st or 2nd year) to join our culinary team in Northcote, Victoria. This is a full-time apprenticeship position that offers an exceptional opportunity to develop your cooking skills under the guidance of experienced culinary professionals. As an apprentice chef, you will work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, learning industry best practices whilst contributing to the creation of high-quality dishes that delight our customers. This role is perfect for someone passionate about food and eager to build a career in the hospitality and culinary arts sector.

Key responsibilities

- Assist senior chefs in the preparation, cooking and plating of dishes according to established recipes and kitchen standards
- Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping and portioning vegetables, proteins and other components
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain cleanliness of workstations and cooking areas
- Follow food safety and hygiene protocols at all times, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
- Learn and apply various cooking techniques, including grilling, sautéing, baking and other culinary methods
- Support the kitchen team during service, responding promptly to orders and working collaboratively under pressure
- Assist with stock rotation, food storage and inventory management
- Contribute to the development of new menu items and participate in kitchen meetings and training sessions
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanour whilst representing Rogue Rabbit Cafe with pride

What we’re looking for

- Someone who want to enroll in or completed a 1st or 2nd year apprenticeship in commercial cookery or culinary arts
- Genuine passion for cooking and a desire to develop culinary skills and knowledge
- Robust attention to detail and commitment to food quality and presentation




- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and take direction from senior kitchen staff
- Excellent time management and organisational skills to handle multiple tasks in a busy kitchen
- Physical fitness and stamina to stand for extended periods and handle the demands of a kitchen workplace
- Willingness to learn and adapt, with a positive and professional attitude towards feedback
- Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices, with current or willingness to obtain relevant food handling certifications
- Flexibility with shift patterns, including potential weekend and evening work as required by cafe operations
- Previous hospitality or kitchen experience is advantageous but not essential
