Job Description

What This Role Involves
n
As a Family Counsellor within the Family and Relationship Service (FARS) program, you will provide specialist counselling to individuals, couples, and families experiencing separation, crisis, or conflict.
n
Using a holistic, client-centred approach, you will support clients in strengthening relationships, improving wellbeing, and navigating complex personal and family challenges. You will also be responsible for client intake, assessment, case management, and the maintenance of accurate records.

In this role, you will:
n
n
- Deliver family and individual counselling using established therapeutic modalities
n
- Conduct intake and assessments to determine client suitability and needs
n
- Support individuals and families experiencing relationship difficulties, separation, or conflict
n
- Provide referrals, advocacy, and education/health promotion as required
n
- Develop strategies to strengthen relationships and improve outcomes for children and families
n
- Maintain accurate client records, case notes, and reporting requirements
n
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to support holistic care
n
- Contribute to early intervention programs, including parenting and psycho-educational groups
n
n
Key performance expectations include:
n
n
- Managing an active caseload of approximately 25–30 clients (full-time)
n
- Achieving client contact benchmarks of 25 hours per week
n
- Meeting program outcomes and service delivery targets
n
n
What Makes You Stand Out (Essential Criteria)
n
n
- Minimum Diploma of Counselling with demonstrated experience in family counselling
n
- Proven ability to work with individuals and families experiencing conflict, separation, or crisis
n
- Experience supporting families affected by domestic and family violence
n
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills
n
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
n
- Demonstrated ability to manage caseloads, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation
n
- Willingness to participate in supervision and ongoing professional development
n
- Current driver's licence and ability to travel regularly (including overnight stays).
n
- Valid Working With Children Check and National Criminal History Check
n
