Schedule: Monday to Friday | 7:00am - 3:30pm

Mackay Regional Council is seeking a skilled Technical Officer - Plant and Fleet (Technical) to support the lifecycle management of Council's diverse fleet assets, including heavy and light vehicles, plant, and mechanical equipment.

n

This role plays a key part in ensuring Council's fleet is safe, compliant, cost-effective, and fit-for-purpose through strong technical input, data-driven analysis, and collaboration with internal teams and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

- Support fleet procurement, asset acquisition, and disposal activities
n
- Conduct cost analysis and assist in developing technical specifications for new and replacement plant
n
- Evaluate plant and equipment to ensure operational suitability and value for money
n
- Provide technical advice on fleet operations, maintenance reliability, and whole-of-life asset management
n
- Assist with replacement planning and asset optimisation strategies
n
- Research and identify emerging fleet technologies and industry solutions
n
- Support fleet safety, compliance, and risk management in line with NHVR requirements
n




- Coordinate equipment trials, demonstrations, assessments, and operator training
n
- Contribute to maintenance strategies and continuous improvement initiatives
n
- Work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to support operational outcomes
n

About You

n

n
- Strong understanding of fleet asset management and plant operations
n
- Experience in maintenance reliability and whole-of-life costing principles
n
- Ability to analyse data and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations
n
- Knowledge of procurement processes and technical specification development
n
- Familiarity with heavy vehicle regulations and safety compliance frameworks
n
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
n
- Highly organised with strong problem-solving and planning ability
n
