Job Description
Algebra.com.au helps NSW's most ambitious high school students turn strong HSC mathematics results into exceptional ones — moving students from a 60–70% baseline to 95% and beyond in Advanced, Extension I and Extension II Mathematics.
n
We do this by removing every administrative burden from our lecturers so they can focus on one thing: the craft of teaching. Lessons are framework-based, mapped into full difficulty arcs from first principles to the hardest questions a paper can ask, and delivered live to auditoriums of 20–60 students, filmed and streamed.
n
We're growing and looking for a full-time High School Mathematics Lecturer to join our team.
n
Role Summary:
n
In this role, you will own multiple teaching streams across Stage 5.3 and Stage 6, Advanced, Extension I and/or Extension II; guiding the same cohort of students through a full 12-month arc across every major topic in the syllabus, live, recorded, in front of rooms of up to 60 students.
n
You'll work closely with our Head of Education as an editorial partner on lesson structure, pacing and delivery, with a single shared objective. Taking students who are already valuable/above average at mathematics and making them exceptional at it.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
In your first 90 days, you will:
n
Design and deliver lectures across probability, algebra, geometry, calculus, trigonometry, complex numbers, vectors, mechanics and statistical reasoning.
n
Take ownership of one or more streams in Stage 5.3 and/or Stage 6, across Advanced, Extension I and/or Extension II.
n
Build lessons around deliberately provocative questions: a proof that seems too good to be true, or a result that looks wrong until it isn't. We want you to make difficult ideas approachable.
n
Read a room of 20–60 students in real time and adjust pacing,
energy and delivery accordingly.
n
Partner with our Head of Education to refine lesson structure ahead of each live stream.
n
Ongoing Responsibilities:
n
Guide a consistent group of students through a 12-month teaching phase across the full syllabus.
n
Extend teaching beyond strict syllabus boundaries whenever it builds deeper intuition or unlocks higher-order questions.
n
Continuously sharpen your explanations of the hardest concepts, so what was once difficult becomes obviously approachable.
n
Requirements (Must-Have):
n
Demonstrated experience teaching Stage 5.3, Advanced, Extension I and/or Extension II Mathematics.
n
University-level study in at least one of: differential equations, real or complex analysis, group theory, abstract algebra, set theory and logic, metric spaces, or vector calculus.
n
A track record of students actively seeking out your classes as evidenced through results, testimonials or retention
n
Genuine command of mathematics as a subject in its own right, beyond its use for passing exams.
n
Fluent, precise command of the English language, with the ability to hold an audience for 180 minutes unscripted.
n
Nice-to-Haves (Preferred):
n
Broad intellectual curiosities outside mathematics — philosophy, history, economics, engineering, Olympiad mathematics, or similar.
n
Comfort performing in front of a live, filmed audience (theatre, public speaking, or similar background).
n
Elementary ability to write mathematics in LaTeX.
n
What Success Looks Like In this role:
n
High satisfaction ratings from your student cohort across each teaching term.
n
Students visibly shifting from pattern-matching remembered methods to independently reasoning through unfamiliar questions.
n
Measurable movement of your students from a 60–70% baseline toward 95%+ in HSC results over a 12-month cycle.
