ABOUT THE ROLE
n
We have multiple positions for Disability Support Workers (DSW) across various locations. You will be working with Adults and Children with various disabilities, which may include physical, intellectual, cognitive, brain injury and psychosocial disability. You will be assisting the participant in accordance with their care plan in providing the participant with the best care for them to live a full and meaningful life. The shifts available would suit someone who can work across a range of hours, including weekdays, evenings, active/non-active overnight shifts and weekends.

MAIN DUTIES
n
General
n
n
- Always check your understanding of the participant's required tasks before commencing your work.
n
- Implement personal hygiene and infection control procedures
n
- Be alert for changes in a participant's demeanor for signs of distress or apathy (uninterested or listless)
n
- Adjust your tasks to meet participant's needs, preferences and priorities
n
- Record all work as per the organisation's requirements
n
n
Work Practices
n
Duties will vary according to the participant's support plan but may include:
n
n
- Assisting people in performing important daily activities
n
- Facilitating daily tasks like personal hygiene and dressing. With the inclusion of peg-feeding, bladder/bowel management, and seizure management
n
- Performing home-based tasks such as food preparation and housework
n
- Undertaking tasks outside the home, such as shopping
n
- Transportation in wheelchair accessible vehicles
n
- Ensuring varied programs of social activities
n
- Providing emotional support and companionship to a professional standard
n
- Incorporate Child Safe Standards in their practice when working with children and young people
n
- Report any real or potential risks of harm to a participant, including children and young people
n
n

- Talk to the participant/supervisor about any intermittent conditions to determine strategies when confronted with the situation

- Respond quickly if the participant is uncomfortable, distressed, apathetic or in poor health
n
- Identify potential and actual risks, then act promptly and in consultation with the participant
n
- Escalate to your supervisor any situation when the participant is at risk
n
- Identify and report any work health and safety issues
n
- Promote independence and choice
n
- Never use a restrictive practice unless approved and trained in the practice
n
n
REQUIREMENTS
n
n
- Availability to Work Weekend and Night Shifts (Mandatory)
n
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
n
- Senior First Aid Certificate with a Valid CPR Certificate
n
- Police Check
n
- Working With Children Check (Paid)
n
- Current Driver Licence
n
- Smartphone
n
- Reliable, Fully Registered and Comprehensively Insured Vehicle
n
n
Please Note:
n
Weekend and night work is an essential part of this role. Applicants must be willing and available to work a range of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and overnight supports.
n
EXPERIENCE
n
Preferred minimum of six months of relevant experience
n
Experience supporting people with disability
n
Demonstrated continuing professional development
n
Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles
n
Use of equipment related to personal and work safety,including floor and ceiling hoists
n
Promoted participants' choice and independence
n
Supported participants in hygiene practices
n
SKILLS
n
Verbal and written communication skills.
n
Ability to work with various ages, cultures and ability levels
n
Ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
n
Strong time management and ability to prioritise.
n
Ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of programs and other computer systems for record-keeping.
n
Excellent problem-solving and conflict-management skills.
n
Ability to work as part of a team and maintain good working relationships.
