Job Description
Your role:
n
As a Psychologist, your skills and understanding of human behaviour will be highly valued across a wide range of defence contexts including mental health settings, recruitment and selection, training and human factors, organisational systems, and testing and measurement.
n
With new initiatives in resilience and human performance offering opportunities for psychologists to develop expertise, the ADF's demand for psychologists' skills continues to grow.
n
Your Military duties include, but aren't limited to:
n
n
- selection interviewing
n
- mental health screening
n
- occupational assessment
n
- psychological assessment
n
- mental health intervention in both posted and operational environments to members of all 3 Services (Navy, Army and Air Force).
n
n
Salary:
n
On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn $117,869 per annum, depending on your qualifications, plus generous super.
n
Location:
n
Following your initial military training in Canberra and Albury/Wodonga NSW/VIC, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia.
n
Army Psychologists are positioned primarily throughout most capital cities, and a newly appointed officer could normally expect to start their career in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Townsville, Darwin or Wagga Wagga. Psychologists are also located in many other military locations throughout Australia.

Eligibility:
n
n
- Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
n
- Be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian Citizen, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page to confirm you meet the requirements for a career in the ADF
n
- Be reasonably fit and healthy.Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You'll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don't worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
n
- Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
n
- Hold full general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to practice as a Psychologist, or be in the process of achieving full registration (for example, candidates completing the final year of their 5+1 pathway).
