We are seeking a motivated person with a genuine passion for the automotive industry to commence a Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology apprenticeship with a well-known local smash repair workshop in Cairns.

This is a hands-on trade for someone who takes pride in producing high-quality work and is genuinely interested in automotive painting and vehicle restoration.

What you will be doing
n
n
- Assisting qualified tradespeople with vehicle preparation and spray-painting work
n
- Sanding, masking, priming and preparing vehicle surfaces
n
- Washing and polishing vehicles
n
- Preparing completed vehicles for customer collection
n
- Moving vehicles safely in and out of workshop bays and storage yards
n
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop
n
- Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment
n
- Following workplace health, safety and environmental procedures
n
n
As you progress through your apprenticeship, you will learn how to:
n

- Prepare vehicle surfaces for refinishing
n
- Match and mix automotive paint colours
n
- Apply paint using spray-painting equipment
n
- Identify and rectify paint defects
n
- Polish and finish painted surfaces
n
- Work effectively as part of a busy automotive repair team
n
n
You must have
n
n
- A manual driver licence, with at least a red provisional licence
n
- The ability to work effectively within a team and in a busy workshop
n
- Basic language, literacy and numeracy skills
n
- Basic digital literacy and the ability to use a computer for your studies
n
- The ability to listen to and follow instructions
n
- A commitment to following workplace health and safety requirements at all times
n
- Strong attention to detail and pride in presenting vehicles to a high standard
n
- Reliable transport and the ability to attend early morning starts
n

Advantageous
n

- Previous experience as a trade assistant
n
- Previous automotive, workshop, painting or detailing experience
n
- Completion of relevant work experience or a pre-apprenticeship program
n
