Job Description
Allegra Spender is the Independent Member for Wentworth, known for her evidence-based, communityvalues driven approach to federal politics and her leadership on tax reform, climate action, small business and integrity in public life. We're looking for a Senior Adviser to be part of the development and delivery of the office's overall policy and political strategy.
n
This is a rare opportunity to help shape national strategy at the highest level of Australian politics — working directly with the Member on positioningher as a trusted voice on the issues that matter most to the country, while helping to build a broader community-powered political movement.
n
What You'll Do
n
Working in the policy team, develop and deliver the office's overall political strategy — from setting direction through to tracking outcomes.
n
Act as a trusted political adviser to the Member, bringing sound judgement to fast-moving political situations.
n
Shape an "always on" media strategy in partnership with the media team.
n
Work closely with the policy team to turn research and analysis into evidence-based recommendations.
n
Build and maintain relationships with government, other parliamentary offices, and key community stakeholders.
n
Help coordinate cross-team initiatives and develop the campaign strategy for the 2028 election.
n
Represent the Member in meetings and forums, and support preparation of speeches, briefs and parliamentary materials.
n
About You
n
You have solid experience in politics, policy, strategy consulting, or a related field.
n
You can provide clear, high-level strategic advice in complex and fast-changing environments.
n
You're an exceptional written and verbal communicator,
able to distil complexity into clear, actionable recommendations.
n
You build relationships easily and manage stakeholders with tact and professionalism.
n
You thrive under pressure, juggling competing priorities without losing sight of the bigger picture.
n
You bring discretion, sound political judgement, and a genuine commitment to evidence-based, community-focused politics.
n
You have a strong understanding of the political landscape, public policy and parliamentary process — or are quick to learn it.
n
Why Join Team Allegra
n
Work at the centre of one of Australia's most high-profile and effective crossbench parliamentary offices.
n
Genuine influence over strategy and policy positioning, not just execution of someone else's plan.
n
A collaborative, values-driven team culture focused on outcomes for the Wentworth community and the country.
n
The opportunity to help shape the next phase of community-led politics in Australia.
n
Employment conditions:
n
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which includes:
n
Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
n
An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
n
A probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
n
The successful applicant will be required to comply with the Behaviour Standards and Code and may be required to undergo a National Police History check.
n
Applications from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged.
