Position Information
Ryde Secondary College (Years 7-12) is a co-ed, partial selective school, with an enrolment of 1,480 students including 65% from an EAL/D background. It offers a comprehensive curriculum across its streams: selective, gifted and talented, mainstream, and support unit classes. It prioritises high-impact, evidence-based professional learning and differentiated teaching practices such as Cultures of Thinking. The college fosters excellence across the four HPGE domains—Intellectual, Social-Emotional, Physical/Sporting, and Creative and Performing Arts with extensive opportunities for student growth. Over 100 extracurricular activities are provided including Centres for Excellence in Sport, Creative and Performing Arts, and Technology and Applied Studies (Fashion) social justice programs, student voice initiatives, and community partnerships that foster a positive and creative learning setting. The College coordinates a Community of Schools focused on professional learning and development for best practice and shared projects for student engagement and success.
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated ability to improve student outcomes through innovative curriculum leadership and evidence-informed practice, including planning and implementing whole-school projects and strategic priorities such as High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) and cross-school partnerships
- Proven capacity to effectively manage complex student behaviour and diverse learning needs, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all learners.
- Expertise in developing and managing digital communication strategies and practices that enhance parent, staff, and student engagement, attendance and attainment
- Skilled in mentoring staff and executive teams by leading targeted skilled learning initiatives, embedding evidence-based practices, and fostering a culture of innovation, growth, and high-impact teaching across the school.
General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
