Tamworth Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Physician to provide high-quality respiratory and general medical services to inpatients at Tamworth Referral Hospital.
n
The VMO role offers:
n
n
- opportunity to privately refer outpatients to your own consulting rooms
n
- participation in the after-hours General Medicine on-call roster (1:8)
n
- involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs
n
- a fortnightly theatre list, including bronchoscopy and EBUS procedures
n
- participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
n
- experience in pleural and lung ultrasound (desirable)
n
n
Tamworth Hospital services a local and referral population of approximately 205,000 people and is one of the largest rural referral hospitals in Australia.
n
In July 2015, the hospital completed a $220 million acute services redevelopment, providing modern facilities and expanded services.
n
You'll join a collegial team of 16 physicians across a broad range of specialties, including cardiology, nephrology, rheumatology, medical and radiation oncology, haematology, neurology, gastroenterology, rehabilitation, and endocrinology.

Educational opportunities

Tamworth Hospital is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Newcastle (Bachelor of Medicine) and the Joint Medical Program with the University of New England.
n
The hospital supports accredited Basic Physician Training in General Medicine, as well as Advanced Training in:
n
n
- Cardiology
n
- Nephrology
n
- Medical Oncology
n
- Provide admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD.
n
- Attend and be available during rostered work hours and while on call, including for clinical handover, clinical supervision, teaching, and emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD.
n
- Contribute to education and research as determined and required by HNELHD.
n
- Hold a primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the RACP (Respiratory Medicine), and/or be eligible through an overseas-trained specialist pathway.
n
- Demonstrate recent and comprehensive experience in General Medicine and Respiratory Medicine as evidence of being a medical expert.
n
- Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development and the ability to support the education and development of other staff, including trainees.
n
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills when working with patients, students, other health professionals and the public.
n
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team and work with a range of stakeholders across different settings.
n
- Demonstrate leadership and management capability, including flexibility in a changing health system and experience in safety and quality improvement.
n
- Demonstrate professionalism through ongoing professional development, peer review and participation in clinical governance activities.
n
- Demonstrate advocacy for improving the health of individuals and the broader community.
n
