Company Description Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society Inc. is a volunteer-run heritage railway operating between Quorn and Port Augusta on sections of the original Ghan line in South Australia. Established in 1973, the Society has grown into a recognized tourism operator, earning Silver in the 2023 South Australian Tourism Awards.

We operate steam and diesel trains from March to November. Maintenance, restoration, and planning activities occur year-round, supporting safe and memorable experiences for visitors to the Flinders Ranges region.

Location: Quorn, South Australia

Employment Type: Full Time (minimum 1 year)

Reports to: Board Delegate (Secretary or Nominee)

Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society is seeking an experienced and motivated Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of one of Australia's most iconic heritage railways.
n
This is a unique opportunity to combine operational leadership, people management, rail safety compliance and stakeholder engagement within a highly respected tourism and volunteer organisation.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Manage the safe and efficient operation of PRRPS train services
n
- Coordinate paid staff and support volunteer managers and coordinators
n
- Liaise with contractors and external rail service providers
n
- Support compliance with Rail Safety National Law and PRRPS Safety Management Systems
n
- Coordinate maintenance priorities and operational readiness of railway assets
n
- Prepare reports and provide advice to the Board Delegate
n
- Ensure operational KPIs and contractual obligations are achieved
n
- Minimum 5 years experience managing people and operations
n
- Robust communication, leadership and organisational skills
n
- Ability to work collaboratively with employees, volunteers and contractors
n
- Commitment to work health and safety and rail safety compliance
n
- Heritage railway, tourism or transport industry experience
n
- Experience working with volunteers
n
- Rail industry qualifications and operational knowledge
n
