This is an chance for a Senior Legal Counsel with retail and consumer banking expertise to join a highly regarded, values-led mutual bank at a time of strong growth, transformation and impact.

Working within a respected, high-performing in-house legal team, this role offers meaningful exposure to strategic initiatives, regulatory complexity and enterprise-wide projects.

This is a senior, influential role for a banking lawyer who enjoys complexity, autonomy and partnering closely with the business. Your advice will directly shape decision-making, governance and the future direction of the organisation.

Role Responsibilities

n

n
- Providing senior legal advice across retail banking, financial services, corporate and regulatory matters
n
- Advising on regulatory compliance including deposit-taking, consumer credit, prudential standards and industry codes
n
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments and advising on business impacts
n
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts and service arrangements
n
- Supporting strategic initiatives including mergers, partnerships, new products and enterprise projects
n
- Identifying and managing legal risk in collaboration with risk and compliance teams
n
- Supporting governance processes, including Board and Committee papers, resolutions and director obligations
n
- Managing disputes and litigation matters, including engagement with external counsel
n




- Acting as a trusted business partner to senior leaders and stakeholders across the organisation
n

Skills and Experience

n

n
- Admitted solicitor with a current unrestricted Australian practising certificate
n
- Strong post-qualification experience in banking, finance or financial services law
n
- Demonstrated expertise in retail banking regulation and regulatory frameworks
n
- Proven ability to deliver clear, pragmatic and commercially sound legal advice in a complex environment
n
- Experience supporting strategic projects, transactions and enterprise initiatives
n
- Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence engaging with senior leaders
n
- Experience within a mutual bank, customer-owned institution or regulated financial services environment highly regarded
n
- Broader in-house exposure across areas such as consumer credit, privacy, technology, employment or governance advantageous
n
