Your new company A large Queensland Government organisation delivering building, construction and maintenance services across the state is seeking an experienced AO5 Workplace Health & Safety Advisor to join their high-performing team.

Based in Townsville, this 4-month contract offers the opportunity to work closely with operational teams and contribute to meaningful workplace health, safety and environmental outcomes across a diverse range of projects and worksites. Your new role Reporting to the WHS Manager and working alongside Principal Workplace Health & Safety Advisors, you will play an significant role in supporting workplace health, safety and environmental initiatives across operational and construction environments.

You will provide practical WHS advice, assist with compliance activities, and contribute to continuous improvement across safety systems and processes.
n
Your responsibilities will include:
n
n
- Conducting WHS&E; audits and inspections across operational sites and contractor-delivered projects.
n
- Providing WHS advice and guidance to operational, supervisory and management staff regarding legislative compliance and Safety Management System requirements.
n
- Assisting with the delivery of WHS training, information sessions and awareness initiatives.
n
- Supporting the reporting and investigation of WHS incidents, including contractor notifiable incidents.
n
- Assisting with worker rehabilitation and return-to-work programs under the guidance of the WHS team.
n
- Supporting emergency planning and response activities across offices and depots.
n
- Assisting in the development, review and implementation of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS),
risk assessments and WHS Management Plans.
n
- Contributing to regular WHS&E; reporting across regional operations.
n
- Supporting the delivery of health and safety programs that meet operational and stakeholder requirements.
n
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote a positive safety culture.
n

What you'll need to succeed
n
To be successful in this role, you will bring experience within workplace health and safety, ideally within construction, maintenance, infrastructure or a similar operational environment.
n
You will also possess:
n
n
- Knowledge of WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and compliance requirements.
n
- Experience conducting or supporting WHS audits, inspections and safety initiatives.
n
- Strong understanding of risk assessments, SWMS and safety management processes.
n
- Ability to support incident investigations and reporting activities.
n
- Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
n
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and time management abilities.
n
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across diverse teams.
n
- Confidence providing practical WHS advice in operational environments.
n
