Role Description
Metford Community Baptist Church (MCBC) is seeking a passionate and mission-minded Associate Pastor / Ministry Worker to join our ministry team and provide leadership to our Youth and Young Adults in the growing Maitland region of the Hunter Valley. This is an exciting chance to help shape the spiritual lives of young people while contributing to the wider vision and of our church as we seek to know, love, and share Jesus.
Working closely with the Lead Pastor, church leadership, volunteers, and our local Christian school community (Maitland Christian School), the successful applicant will play a significant role in developing ministries that reach young people and support families both within the church and throughout the wider community.

Position Summary
The Associate Pastor / Ministry Worker serves as a key member of the church’s ministry team, helping youth and young adults grow in faith, connect meaningfully with church life, and engage with the wider community. This role nurtures discipleship pathways, strengthens relationships across our church and school communities, and supports the ongoing development of our afternoon service.
This position is offered on apart-time basis (3 days per week). Remuneration will be in accordance withNSW & ACT Baptist Association guidelines, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities
Youth Ministry Development
- Establish and lead a regular youth ministry program within the church and wider community.
- Build strong relationships with young people and their families.
- Create opportunities for evangelism, discipleship, mentoring, and leadership development.
- Encourage youth involvement in worship, service, and mission.
Family Ministry
- Provide pastoral care to youth and young adults.
- Help youth and their families connect with the ministries and rhythms of church life.
- Support youth and their families in their spiritual growth and discipleship.
- Develop pathways that assist youth and young adults as they transition into deeper engagement.
- Collaborate with the Lead Pastor in planning our services, and work alongside the Kingdom Crew Leader and volunteer teams serving in youth and families ministries as these areas continue to develop.
School Engagement
- Strengthen ministry connections with Maitland Christian School.
- Participate in chapels, assemblies, pastoral support, and other relational opportunities.
- Build meaningful connections with students, families, and staff through intentional engagement at school and parent events.
Afternoon Service Leadership
- Lead and develop the church’s afternoon service, guiding it toward sustainable growth and helping it become a more regular service that supports consistent attendance among new people.
- Engage young adults, youth, and families through accessible and creative ministry approaches.
- Coordinate volunteers and ministry teams involved in the service.
Community Engagement
- Build relationships within the Metford and Maitland communities.
- Identify opportunities for outreach and community connection.
- Represent the church in community activities and partnerships where appropriate.
- Develop strategies for engaging unchurched families and young people with the gospel.
Essential Qualities and Requirements
The successful applicant will:
- Demonstrate a vibrant and growing Christian faith.
- Be committed to the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ.
- Affirm and support the beliefs, values and ministry direction of MCBC.
- Possess a genuine heart for youth, young adults, and family ministry.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Be able to recruit, encourage, and lead volunteer teams.
- Show initiative, creativity, and the ability to work independently.
- Work collaboratively within a team-based ministry environment.
- Demonstrate good organisational and communication skills.
- Willingness to become an active member of MCBC.
- Adherence to all Safe Church, legal and insurance requirements.
- Hold a satisfactory National Police Check and a current Working With Children Check.
- Become a regular attendee at HDBA100 and Maitland Church Collective (MCC).
Desirable skills and experience
- A recognised theological qualification
- Previous experience in youth, young adults, family, school, or pastoral ministry.
- Experience working with volunteers and ministry teams.
- Understanding of Baptist church life and governance.
Reporting Relationships
- Report directly to the Lead Pastor.
- Work closely with the Church Leadership Team.
- Collaborate with the Youth Service Team, Kingdom Crew Leader, and ministry volunteers.
- Engage with staff and leadership within Maitland Christian School as appropriate.
