Intensivist – Visiting Medical Officer (VMO)

The Opportunity

n

In this VMO position, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, contemporary intensive care to a diverse adult casemix within a Level 5 ICU. You will work alongside a highly respected team of Intensivists with backgrounds in anaesthesia, emergency medicine, general medicine, and advanced echocardiography.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide comprehensive specialist ICU/HDU care in collaboration with co-admitting VMOs
n
- Supervise, mentor and support junior medical officers and trainees across the hospital
n
- Engage compassionately with patients and families, ensuring clear communication and continuity of care
n
- Actively participate in safety, quality and governance activities
n
- Contribute to ongoing research and clinical improvement initiatives within the unit
n
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across the hospital
n

About the ICU

n

n
- Level 5 ICU | 10-bed combined ICU/HDU
n




- Broad range of adult medical and surgical presentations
n
- Occasional paediatric patients who are stabilised and transferred to tertiary paediatric services
n
- Supportive, collegiate team culture with strong emphasis on education and innovation
n
- Well‐equipped unit with access to skilled senior nursing staff and allied health colleagues
n

About you

n

We are seeking a committed Intensivist who is:

n

n
- FRANZCA, FCICM or equivalent
n
- Experienced in providing high-level ICU care in an Australian or comparable healthcare setting
n
- Passionate about teaching and strengthening junior medical workforce skills
n
- Collaborative, approachable, and aligned with patient‐centred values
n
- Interested in contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives
n
