This is a combined clinical and research fellowship. It is ideally suited to either a first- or second-year general surgical fellow with a broad clinical interest.

n

About the Role

n

We are seeking a first or second year surgical fellow with a strong interest in both clinical practice and research. This role offers a broad clinical experience, working closely with surgical consultants, subspecialty consultants, and accredited surgical registrars in the care and management of general surgical patients.

n

In addition to clinical exposure, this position provides dedicated time and support for pursuing a research project in an area of your interest. This is an ideal opportunity to further both your academic and clinical development, and to prepare for sub-specialty post-fellowship training, overseas fellowship, or a future consultant position.

Research role

n

n
- It is expected that you will undertake a research project related to either General, Breast, Endocrine or HPB/UGI surgery.
n
- As a minimum requirement, it is expected that you will either present at a national level or publish in a peer-reviewed journal.
n
- An opportunity also exists to undertake a higher degree by research through the Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne.

Clinical role

n

n
- You will be primarily attached to either the Breast/Endocrine or HPB/UGI unit depending on your clinical interest.
n
- You will aid in the cover of other general surgical fellows (Colorectal, Breast/Endocrine, HPB/UGI) as required.
n




- Clinical duties will include covering both elective and emergency operating, outpatient clinics, XRAY meetings, MDT meetings and both weekend and after hours on call as rostered.
n
- You will be rostered for four days per week inclusive of dedicated research and training time. An additional prospect exists to assist with private lists one day per week.
n

Supervisor, training and education role

n

n
- Rotating roster with other accredited fellows to participate in the teaching of the SET trainees.
n
- Active role with the Pre-SET committee to enhance the training and education of junior staff
n
- Active participation in clinical improvement programs, audit and recruitment of junior surgical staff.
n

n

Classifications for this position will be HM25 - HM30 ($129,048.40 - $177,622.12) pro rata for part-time.

n

Part time 0.8FTE, fixed term position.
