Job Description
Family Support Worker (Residential Youth Support)

The role:
n
We are looking for experienced and passionate staff members to provide support to Children and Young People involved within the Out-of-Home-Care Sector. The role will involve supporting children from birth to adolescence in various settings including Youth Justice, Alternate Care Placements, Sibling Groups, Community and In-Home Supports, Emergency Supports and Early Intervention. Staff will be required to utilise and implement therapeutic, trauma-informed practices to ensure positive outcomes for all Children and Young People receiving services.

We are looking for people who are adaptable, flexible, experienced and dedicated to creating systemic change in the lives of the Children and Young People we support.
n
Staff will be required to work across a 24/7 roster inclusive of morning, afternoon and active-night shifts. Shifts may vary in length between 3 hours to 8 hours.
n
The successful applicant will receive a comprehensive onboarding from the Capability Family Services Management team, as well as complete a robust training course to ensure you are best equipped within the role.

The responsibilities:
n
n
- Support Children and Young People in a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach.
n
- Providing daily support requirements, inclusive of participating in activities, transportation, preparing meals and prompting.
n
- High-level completion of shift documentation including written notes and record keeping.
n
- Engagement with Supervision, Training & Development.
n
- Supporting Children and Young People through crisis situations and trauma-related behaviours.
n
- Implementing client specific protocol to ensure high quality supports.
n
- Supporting Children and Young People with daily care tasks and household tasks.
n
- Mentoring and role-modeling pro-social behaviour to Children and Young People.
n
- Demonstrate and model high ethics and standards, following all Capability policies, procedures and values.
n
n
The requirements:
n
n
- Qualification in Community Services, Psychology, Social Work or Youth/Disability is desirable, but not required.
n
- Prior experience supporting clients from backgrounds of trauma or complex behaviours.
n
- High-level problem-solving skills with the ability to think and respond quickly and appropriately to situations.
n
- Excellent literacy and writing skills
n
- Working with Vulnerable People Card (Or ability to obtain one)
n
- Working with Children's Check NSW (Or ability to obtain one)
n
- CYPS Suitability Clearance (or ability to obtain one)
n
- Valid police check (or willingness to undertake one)
n
- Valid Australian Drivers License
n
- Appropriate Working Rights in Australia
n
- Current First Aid & CPR Qualifications (or ability to obtain)
n
- Reliable, Comprehensively Insured Motor Vehicle (Compulsory)
n
n
