WHS Officer – National Operations – Contract Opportunity
n
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced WHS Officer to support workplace health and safety activities across a national organization. This will begin as a 12-month contract opportunity with a view to becoming a permanent role.
n
Working closely with operational leaders and employees, you will help maintain a safe and compliant working environment across multiple locations. You will provide practical WHS guidance, identify and manage workplace risks, conduct audits and investigations, and support the continued development of a proactive safety culture.
n
This is a highly visible and hands-on position suited to a confident WHS professional who enjoys working collaboratively across different teams and locations. Interstate travel will be required to provide on-site support, conduct inspections, and deliver training.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Support the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of national WHS policies, procedures and systems.
n
- Monitor compliance with relevant WHS legislation, codes of practice, and regulatory requirements.
n
- Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments, and internal WHS audits.
n
- Identify workplace hazards and assist operational teams in implementing effective controls.
n
- Coordinate and participate in incident and accident investigations, including root cause analysis.
n
- Monitor corrective actions and ensure identified safety issues are resolved within agreed timeframes.
n
- Maintain accurate WHS records, registers, reports, and supporting documentation.
n
- Assist with the development and monitoring of WHS performance measures and reporting.
n
- Coordinate and deliver employee inductions, safety training, and awareness programs.
n
- Provide practical WHS advice and support to managers, supervisors,
and employees.
n
- Support WHS committee activities and communicate outcomes to relevant stakeholders.
n
- Promote continuous improvement by applying lessons learned from incidents, audits and emerging safety trends.
n
- Contribute to initiatives supporting employee health, safety and wellbeing.
n
n
To succeed in this position, you will bring:
n
n
- A tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline.
n
- At least five years' experience in a WHS position, ideally supporting multiple sites or geographically dispersed teams.
n
- Solid knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and contemporary safety standards.
n
- Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining WHS systems, policies, and procedures.
n
- Practical experience in workplace risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigation.
n
- Experience supporting emergency response planning and corrective action management.
n
- Confidence delivering WHS training, inductions, and safety awareness initiatives.
n
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret safety data, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
n
- The ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
n
- A collaborative, practical, and hands-on approach.
n
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
n
- The flexibility to undertake interstate travel.
n
