Overview:

Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Develop and implement Council's Energy Strategy, Utility Strategy and Renewable Energy Roadmapto support long-term sustainability and operational objectives.
n
- Manage Council's electricity, gas and renewable energy portfolio, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs and optimise energy consumption.
n
- Oversee the performance, maintenance and expansion of solar PV systems, battery storage and renewable energy assets, ensuring maximum operational and financial performance.
n
- Support the delivery of Council's Zero Emission Fleet Strategy by providing energy forecasting, electrical capacity planning and technical advice for EV charging infrastructure.
n
- Lead initiatives that improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and support Council's net zero and climate resilience goals.
n
- Manage the procurement and contract administration of energy services, utilities and renewable energy projects, including supplier performance and commercial negotiations.
n
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, utility providers, government agencies, consultants and contractors to deliver strategic energy outcomes.
n
- Manage energy and sustainability projects from planning through to delivery,
ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and in compliance with legislative requirements.
n
- Monitor utility expenditure, develop business cases and financial models, identify grant opportunities and deliver measurable cost savings.
n
- Analyse energy, utility and emissions data to produce dashboards, executive reports and performance insights that support strategic decision‐making.
n
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Australian Standards and governance requirements while driving innovation and continuous improvement across Council's energy portfolio.

About You
n
To be successful in this role, you will have:
n
n
- Demonstrated experience managing energy, utilities, sustainability or renewable energy programs within a large and complex organisation.
n
- Robust knowledge of electricity and gas networks, utility management, renewable energy technologies, solar PV, battery storage and energy efficiency initiatives.
n
- Experience developing strategic plans, business cases, lifecycle costing and financial analysis to support capital investment and operational improvements.
n
- Proven project management experience delivering energy, infrastructure or sustainability projects from planning through implementation.
n
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior leaders, contractors, utility providers, government agencies and technical specialists.
n
- Experience managing procurement processes, supplier contracts, SLAs and commercial negotiations.
n
- Advanced analytical skills, including experience interpreting energy consumption data, forecasting demand, monitoring KPIs and preparing executive‐level reports.
n
- Knowledge of Australian energy legislation, regulatory requirements and industry best practice, with a commitment to governance and compliance.
n
- A proactive, strategic mindset with a passion for sustainability, continuous improvement and delivering innovative energy solutions.
n
- Experience supporting fleet electrification, EV charging infrastructure or net zero initiatives will be highly regarded.
