The Container Coordinator plays a vital operational support role within the logistics team. The primary focus of this position is for booking, time slotting and allocation of Containers to and from port to meet customer requests and warehouse capacity. The coordinator will manage storage charges and invoicing of the container activity and work with all stakeholders to manage detention dates whilst adhering to all compliance to NHVL, Federal and State Legislation. Additionally, the incumbent must maintain a safe work environment in compliance with Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS/OH&S;) legislation and contribute positively to a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure safe, compliant transport operations in line with NHVL and legislation.
- Manage container movements, de-hires and timeframes to minimise additional costs.
- Coordinate under-bond and biosecurity container requirements.
- Maintain accurate TMS and container records.
- Coordinate dispatch and resolve delays to minimise port and booking costs.
- Monitor demurrage and additional fees for customer on-charging.
- Oversee port clearance, loading/offloading and shipping requirements.
- Assist with warehouse administrative duties where required.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders (warehousing, customer service, customs, and transport planning teams).
- Actively participate in team meetings, toolboxes, and process improvement initiatives.
About you
- Previous container coordinator experience in logistics, transport, container shipping, or freight forwarding.
- Familiarity with warehousing processes and procedures.
- Robust computer literacy and proficiency with Transport & Warehousing Management Systems (TMS), and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- High level of attention to detail and accurate data entry capabilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of Australian WHS principles and workplace rights.
- Understanding of Chain of Responsibility (CoR) framework (desirable).
- Experience liaising with third-party transport operators and sub-contractors (desirable).
- Previous container invoicing experience (desirable).
