Clothing Alterations: Tailor / Machinist

Alter Ego has become a beloved alterations brand in the Inner North, where our tailors pride themselves on quality and excellent service. We do everyday work; hems, taking in, sleeves, trousers - alongside bridal, bridesmaid, and suiting alterations for customers who care about fit. Modern fit-out, proper machines, and a small team that takes the craft seriously.

We're hiring for both our Brunswick West and Collingwood stores. You choose which one.

What you'll do Pin and fit customers, provide advice, plan the alteration, and sew it through to a finished garment you'd be happy to put your name on. Most jobs are turned around within a week, so you'll see your work walk back out the door.

What we need

n

2+ years in an alterations shop (not factory or production sewing)

n

Confident with hemming, taking in/letting out, sleeve adjustments, and trouser work

n

Comfortable on overlock, blind hem,



and heavy-duty straight stitch machines

n

Able to pin on the customer and advise on what's possible

n

Bonus if you've worked on bridal, suiting, or leather

n

What we offer

n

$35–$45/hr casual depending on experience. Happy to match or beat your current rate if you're already employed in the trade.

Your choice of Brunswick West or Collingwood

n

Your choice of casual, part-time (20+ hrs), or full time (38–40 hrs). Listed as casual for flexibility, but we'll write a permanent contract for the right person
