The ICT Support Engineer (APS 6) / Information Technology Manager is responsible for managing Defence Force School of Signals (DFSS) training information systems, communications services and ICT security capabilities. The role leads a small team of ICT professionals and oversees the planning, maintenance and support of secure training networks, servers, desktops, video teleconferencing systems and associated technologies. The position provides technical advice, manages stakeholder relationships and ensures compliance with Defence ICT security requirements.

- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
- Experience in ICT security, cyber risk mitigation, and systems maintenance and stakeholder engagement.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
The Information Systems team at the Defence Force School of Signals provides critical ICT support services that enable the delivery of Defence communications and information systems training. The team directly supports four DFSS wings by maintaining training networks, ICT infrastructure, communications systems and cyber security controls. Our work ensures that training activities can be conducted securely, reliably and effectively,
contributing to Joint Capabilities Group objectives and supporting Defence's broader capability development and operational readiness requirements.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is an experienced ICT professional with strong technical expertise across enterprise networks, server and desktop operating environments, virtualisation technologies and ICT security practices. They will be capable of managing competing priorities while supporting critical Defence training environments and maintaining high service delivery standards.
The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgement, leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills. They will be comfortable working in a highly structured and secure environment, providing technical advice to senior leaders and coordinating with Joint Capabilities Group (JCG), Defence Digital Group (DDG) and other stakeholders to achieve organisational outcomes.
Security Clearance
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 2”.
