Newcastle City Council

Your new employer is a privately owned commercial construction business with a long history in NSW and a growing presence across the Hunter. Their approach is centred around a simple philosophy: building communities together and for them, that starts well before a building is handed over.

It means building a strong internal team, developing genuine relationships with subcontractors, working collaboratively with consultants and creating long-term partnerships with clients. They want the people involved in their projects to feel like they are part of the same team, not sitting on opposite sides of a contract.

That philosophy is particularly important as they continue to grow in the Hunter. They are investing in local people, local relationships and a long-term pipeline across health, education and government infrastructure. They are selective about the work they take on and the clients they work with, and they place a huge amount of importance on treating subcontractors well, paying them properly and on time, and building relationships that continue from one project to the next.

That same approach extends to their own people. They are family focused and, where possible, match people to projects that suit their strengths, location and life outside work. There are plenty of young families within the team, weekend work isn't treated as the norm and, when Saturdays are required, the load is shared.

You will take ownership of an $8m health infrastructure project, with full autonomy to run the day-to-day construction delivery. You will be trusted to make decisions, drive the program, manage subcontractors and lead the site, but autonomy does not mean being left to do everything yourself.

You will have the backing of a full project team, including a Project Manager, Project Engineer, Contracts Administrator, Cadet and Safety Manager

You get the best of both worlds: real ownership of your site, with the resources and support around you to deliver it properly. Your responsibilities will include:

- Managing subcontractors, trades and site logistics
- Driving programming, sequencing and look-ahead planning
- Leading safety, quality and environmental standards across the site
- Identifying buildability issues and resolving problems early
- Monitoring progress and keeping the project on program
- Keeping on top of site records, materials, procurement and potential variations
- Working collaboratively with the project team, consultants and client
- Driving defects-free completion, commissioning and handover

ABOUT YOU

You are an experienced commercial Foreman who is comfortable taking ownership of a site. You may already be independently running commercial projects, or you may be a strong Foreman on larger builds who is ready for more responsibility and the opportunity to call a project your own.

Experience across education, health, government or institutional construction would be highly regarded, but technical capability is only part of it. We are looking for someone who understands that a excellent site isn't built by barking orders. It's built by creating a team around you, getting subcontractors on board, communicating properly with consultants and working with the client towards the same outcome.

Someone who fits the philosophy of building communities together, from the people on site to the people ultimately using what you build.
