About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced PM Shift Supervisor to lead our afternoon/evening operations at our Smithfield site.
This is a key operational leadership role responsible for directing, coordinating and supervising the PM shift team while ensuring service, safety, compliance and operational objectives are consistently achieved.
The role commences at 2:30pm to allow sufficient time for operational planning, preparation and set-up prior to the 3:00pm shift team commencing.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES STRONG KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN GENERAL FREIGHT AND INTERSTATE LINEHAUL OPERATIONS.
The successful candidate will have practical experience managing freight operations in a fast-paced transport environment, with a strong understanding of linehaul planning and operations, Dangerous Goods requirements, HACCP and food-chain compliance .
You will be responsible for:
Leading and managing the PM Shift Operations from start to finish.
Driving a strong safety culture on-site every day.
Planning and preparing the operation prior to the 3:00pm shift commencement.
Providing clear direction and instructions to staff, drivers and subcontractors onsite.
Distributing workloads and assigning tasks to maximise unloading and loading efficiencies.
Managing and coordinating interstate linehaul operations, including maintaining scheduled departure times.
Ensuring all express and timeslot freight travels daily.
Monitoring linehaul schedules and proactively managing operational issues that may impact service.
Maintaining load margins by ensuring trailers are loaded to capacity, both by weight and cubic volume, in line with set KPIs.
Ensuring freight is handled, stored and dispatched in accordance with Dangerous Goods requirements and relevant procedures.
Ensuring operational practices meet HACCP and food safety requirements where applicable.
Monitoring systems and technology to ensure all established processes are followed, including FLID, scanning, pre-alerts, reporting and TS.
Identifying and isolating damaged freight and equipment and ensuring issues are reported in a timely manner.
Working closely with the Site Operations Manager to monitor costs and minimise unnecessary agency labour and overtime.
Training, coaching and mentoring team members to achieve operational excellence.
Investigating and resolving operational issues promptly and effectively.
Conducting weekly Toolbox Talks.
Leading daily operational meetings,
including shift handover and end-of-shift reporting.
Maintaining efficiency across all operational activities.
Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieve all business objectives.
Supporting a culture of continuous improvement across the operation.
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
Strong knowledge and practical experience in interstate linehaul operations and general freight transport.
Experience within the General Express Road Freight industry.
Knowledge and experience with Dangerous Goods requirements and compliance.
Knowledge of HACCP principals and food safety requirements, ideally within transport, logistics or warehousing environment.
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Strong knowledge of WH&S;, Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations and driver fatigue management.
Sound knowledge of safety, compliance and operational standards.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and time management skills.
A self-motivated approach with the ability to drive and maintain required daily service levels.
The ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Licenses and Checks Required:
Driver's License (Truck Licence Preferred)
