Burwood Council

Atomic Projects is a Sydney remedial builder that fixes apartment buildings — balconies, façades, waterproofing and concrete repairs. Most of our work is in occupied strata, with residents at home while we work. We do it properly: method statements, hold points, flood tests and third‑party verification.

About the Role

Straight up, so there are no surprises on day one: we currently subcontract membrane application to a licensed applicator. This seat owns everything up to it and everything after it — substrate, falls and screed, detailing, moisture readings, booking the applicator, presenting the substrate at the hold point, protection and the flood test. Get the substrate wrong and the best membrane in the country still fails, so this is the part of the job that decides whether the repair holds.

Once you hold the NSW waterproofing licence and the manufacturer accreditations — which we fund — you apply the membrane yourself on the scopes we are licensed and accredited for, and those jobs stop going to a sub. That is the whole plan for this role.

We hire this seat at three levels under the Award — CW3, CW4 and CW5 / Leading Hand — and we will tell you at interview which one we think you are and what it takes to move up.

Key Responsibilities

Substrate assessment — moisture readings, soundness and falls before anything goes down

Break out and make valuable unsound substrate; grind to the profile the membrane system requires

Set and form falls — screed to fall, hobs, upstands, fillets

Cut and form cavities, door thresholds,

drainage and penetration details ready for verification

Book the membrane subcontractor against the programme and re‑confirm 48 hours out

Present the substrate at the hold point and get the applicator's sign‑off — no sign‑off, no application

Membrane application, sheet and liquid systems, to manufacturer datasheets

Protect finished membranes from following trades, and coordinate with carpenters, screeders and tilers so nothing covers unverified work

Flood tests to AS 4654 and AS 3740 — set up, run, record and close out with photos

QA records on Connecteam — moisture readings, batch numbers, coverage rates, hold‑point photos, subcontractor sign‑offs

Skills Required

White Card, driver's licence, own tools and the right to work in Australia

Proven remedial or wet‑area experience — substrate prep, screeding to fall, detailing

Can read a manufacturer datasheet and work to it

Will hold the job when the moisture reading is wrong, and say so — and stay professional in an occupied building

Cert III Construction Waterproofing or part‑complete, NSW waterproofing licence, manufacturer accreditations, Working at Heights, EWP, tiling or screeding background, strata experience

What's On Offer

$85,000–$110,000 depending on level, CW3 to CW5

Cert III Construction Waterproofing and NSW waterproofing licence fully funded
