Installation Theatrical Engineering – Port Melbourne VIC
Port Melbourne | Full Time | $55–$65/hr + Super
Tired of doing the same electrical work every day?
Installation Theatrical Engineering (ITE) is looking for an experienced A Grade Electrician who enjoys machinery, motor control, automation and fault finding.
This is not a standard commercial electrical role and it's not repetitive factory maintenance.
You'll be part of the team that builds and installs sophisticated stage machinery and motion-control systems for theatres, performing arts centres and major venues across Australia and Asia.
One week you might be building and wiring a motor-control cabinet in our Port Melbourne workshop. The next you could be installing motors, VFDs, encoders and safety systems on site, then commissioning and fault-finding the completed system with our engineers.
What you'll be doing
- Building and wiring motor-control and automation cabinets from electrical drawings
- Installing and terminating motors, VFDs, brakes, encoders, sensors and control equipment
- Wiring PLC I/O, relays, contactors, safety circuits and industrial control equipment
- Reading and interpreting detailed electrical and control schematics
- Installing stage machinery and motion-control systems on project sites
- Testing, commissioning and fault finding
- Working alongside our electrical, motion-control and mechanical engineers
- Planning electrical installation work, materials and labour
- Producing high-quality cabinet wiring, labelling and workmanship
- Supporting and supervising apprentices and other electricians when required
Who we're looking for
You must hold a current Victorian A Grade Electrical Licence .
We're particularly interested in electricians who have worked with industrial machinery, automation, manufacturing equipment,
switchboards, motor control, process equipment or similar systems .
You don't need to have worked in the theatre industry before — we can teach you that.
Ideally, you'll be comfortable with several of the following:
- Motor control and VFDs
- Control-panel or switchboard construction
- Reading electrical and control schematics
- PLC I/O and control circuits
- Safety relays, E-stops, limits and machine safety circuits
- Electrical fault finding
- Industrial machinery and automation
- Testing and commissioning
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can think beyond simply connecting wires from a drawing. You should enjoy understanding how the whole machine works , diagnosing problems and taking responsibility for getting the system operating properly.
If you're a strong industrial electrician who doesn't tick every box above, we'd still like to hear from you.
Why ITE?
ITE designs, manufactures and installs specialised stage machinery and motion-control systems. We manufacture and integrate much of our own equipment, so you'll work on complete systems from the workshop build through to site installation and commissioning.
The work is varied, technical and hands-on.
You’ll work closely with engineers and experienced tradespeople rather than being limited to one small part of the project, with opportunities to develop further skills in motor control, automation, machinery and commissioning.
There is also regular interstate travel and occasional international travel for project installation and commissioning.
$55–$65 per hour + super, depending on experience.
If you're an A Grade Electrician with industrial, machinery, motor-control or automation experience and you're looking for something more engaging than standard electrical work, we'd like to hear from you.
