Health, Safety, Risk and Assurance Manager

The Melbourne Market Authority (MMA) is the operator of the Melbourne Market — a wholesale market of State significance that plays a critical role in Victoria's fresh produce supply chain.

We are seeking an experienced and credible Health, Safety, Risk and Assurance Manager to lead and strengthen our health and safety governance, critical risk management and assurance capability across a complex operational environment.

n

This is a senior leadership chance for a proactive and influential safety professional who can drive organisational maturity, support operational leaders and contribute to a high-performing, safety-focused culture.

About the Role

n

Reporting to the COO, the Health, Safety, Risk and Assurance Manager provides strategic leadership across health and safety governance, high-consequence risk management, assurance, reporting and continuous improvement.

n

The role is responsible for driving a mature, compliant and future-focused health and safety management system while partnering with operational teams, contractors and stakeholders to strengthen safety performance and organisational resilience.

n

The role will also support the Executive and Board through meaningful reporting, risk insights and practical assurance activities that support informed and risk-aware decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development and implementation of MMA's health and safety strategy and governance framework
n
- Drive continuous improvement across health and safety systems, assurance and organisational performance
n
- Lead MMA's approach to critical risk management and contractor safety oversight
n
- Develop meaningful safety reporting, metrics and performance insights for Executive and Board reporting
n
- Coordinate audits, assurance activities and compliance programs
n
- Support leaders with incident management, investigations and corrective actions
n




- Strengthen safety culture, accountability and operational risk awareness across the organisation
n
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards and organisational requirements
n
- Liaise with regulators, external advisors, contractors and key stakeholders as required
n
- Assist with Drug & Alcohol program (between 12am to 5am) on an irregular basis
n

About You

- You are a credible and influential health and safety leader with experience working in complex, high-risk operational environments. You bring strong strategic capability, practical operational understanding and the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of an organisation.
n
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, governance and assurance frameworks
n
- Experience leading health and safety systems and continuous improvement initiatives
n
- High-level stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
n
- Strong analytical and reporting capability
n
- Experience supporting executives and operational leaders with risk-informed decision-making
n
- A collaborative, proactive and improvement-focused approach
