Our Queensland Government client is seeking a Principal Financial Accountant to contribute to the delivery of effective financial management services. As a key member of the financial accounting, assets and reporting unit, you will ensure accurate, timely and relevant financial advice and reporting services are delivered to stakeholders and clients across the organisation and externally.
Role Details

Key responsibilities
- Provide specialist expertise and advice to management to ensure compliance with applicable financial legislation, accounting standards, financial policies and practices.
- Liaise with internal and external clients to ensure the effective delivery of financial and accounting services and the timely resolution of issues and provide support to districts, regions and Head Office in relation to accounting policies, procedures and issues.
- Contribute to the monitoring and execution of the Assurance Framework, including reviewing outcomes, identifying systems risk and preparing recommendations on areas for improvement.
- Manage the delivery of asset accounting services to ensure the accurate recording and reporting of the organisational asset base.
- Develop and implement effective procedures for the timely collection of financial data for consolidation into departmental Annual Financial Statements.
- Implement effective monitoring processes to ensure the integrity of financial information is maintained, including the analysis of the SAP financial ledger.
- Undertake research and prepare high quality reports, submissions, correspondence and briefing notes for management on a range of financial accounting issues and impacts.
- Respond rapidly to emergent business matters/requirements and provide support to executives on an ad hoc basis.
- Develop and maintain constructive, collaborative working relationships with clients and stakeholders through participation in regular client meetings and maintaining frequent communication.
- Identify, develop and implement business improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial accounting, asset accounting and reporting services.
Key skills and experience
- Proven experience in delivering high quality financial accounting services within a complex and geographically diverse organisational workplace; with a demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Demonstrated highly developed oral and written communication skills including the ability to articulate complex financial concepts, negotiate with influence, resolve conflicts and prepare accurate reports and documentation.
- Proven experience working within a large, computerised accrual accounting environment, and the ability to efficiently utilise a range of computer applications, including superior spreadsheeting skills.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills and the proven ability to interpret and evaluate financial data and reports to identify the financial impact of issues on the business and make appropriate recommendations.
- Demonstrated high level attention to detail with the proven ability to work methodically, plan and prioritise tasks, manage workflows and achieve outcomes within allocated timeframes.
