Chosen Family

Town of Cambridge

Make a meaningful difference by supporting someone to live independently, express their identity, pursue their interests, and engage with their community on their own terms.

At Chosen Family , we foster a community-centred environment that embraces diversity, flexibility, inclusion and authentic self-expression. We believe quality support means understanding the individual—not simply providing a service.

We are looking for a compassionate, open-minded and non-judgmental Support Worker who can build a genuine connection with a participant and provide support that is respectful of their values, beliefs, relationships and lifestyle.

The Chance

We are seeking a female Community Support Worker who is LGBTQIA+ affirming and comfortable supporting a participant with a diverse range of interests, beliefs and relationship structures.

The participant is looking for someone who is:

- Open-minded, accepting and genuinely non-judgmental
- LGBTQIA+ affirming and respectful of diverse identities
- Respectful of polyamorous relationships and different relationship structures
- Comfortable with diverse spiritual beliefs and practices, including tarot
- Patient, empathetic, calm and emotionally grounded
- A good listener who takes the time to understand the person they are supporting
- Supportive of autonomy, independence and personal choice
- Comfortable discussing personal or difficult topics appropriately
- Able to remain calm and reassuring when the participant becomes overwhelmed
- Reliable and consistent in maintaining a trusting support relationship

A male Support Worker may also be considered if an excellent match is identified, particularly where the applicant has strong alignment with the participant's values, interests and support needs.

About the Participant

You will be supporting a 30-year-old gender-diverse participant who values authenticity, creativity, independence, inclusivity and being accepted for who they are.

The participant appreciates having a Support Worker who is willing to get to know them as an individual and who can engage with their interests rather than approaching support in a purely task-focused way.

The participant has formal diagnoses including:

- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
- Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD)
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
- Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

- History of an eating disorder, including anorexia nervosa

The participant is independently mobile and does not require manual handling, feeding assistance or mobility equipment. There are no reported behaviours of concern or high-care physical support requirements.

Due to chronic fatigue, supports should be paced appropriately and should not be approached as highly fitness-focused activities. The emphasis is on comfortable, meaningful participation and community access .
