The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to join the Melbourne team.
Reporting to the Construction Manager and working closely with delivery, pre-construction, consultants, clients, and subcontractors, you will lead and manage all aspects of the design process from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and tender phases through to project completion .
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring design solutions are buildable, compliant, commercially effective, and aligned with project objectives while delivering outstanding outcomes for our clients.
- Lead the design process from ECI, bid and procurement phases through to project delivery and completion.
- Establish, manage and maintain project design programs and deliverables.
- Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary consultant teams throughout all project phases.
- Chair design workshops, coordination meetings and stakeholder review sessions.

Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Management
- Lead the design process from ECI, bid and procurement phases through to project delivery and completion.
- Establish, manage and maintain project design programs and deliverables.
- Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary consultant teams throughout all project phases.
- Chair design workshops, coordination meetings and stakeholder review sessions.
Stakeholder & Consultant Management
- Manage stakeholder engagement and secure design endorsement from key project participants.
- Engage, coordinate and manage external design consultants and specialist advisers.
Technical Compliance & Authority Approvals
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Building Code requirements, Australian Standards, regulations and statutory obligations.
- Manage planning, authority and approval requirements throughout the design process.
- Liaise with Relevant Building Surveyors and authorities to secure building permits and approvals.
Specialist Design Coordination
Manage and review specialist consultant inputs including:
- Fire Engineering Briefs
- Accessibility and Access Consultant Reports.
- Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) Reports.
- Green Star and sustainability certification requirements.
Commercial & Risk Management
- Manage design budgets and consultant expenditure.
- Identify and control scope creep throughout the design lifecycle.
- Develop design solutions that address budget constraints while maintaining project objectives.
- Provide value management initiatives to optimise project outcomes.
Design Integration & Delivery
- Review and resolve buildability challenges during design development.
- Prepare design briefs and technical documentation to support subcontractor tendering.
- Collaboratively develop and integrate subcontractor design solutions.
- Review and respond to construction RFIs.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
Qualifications
- Degree qualification in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Relevant industry memberships and accreditations are highly regarded.
Experience
- Extensive experience in Design Management within the construction or property industry.
- Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale and complex building projects.
- Strong understanding of ECI, D&C; and managing contractor procurement models.
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary consultant teams and stakeholder groups.
- Experience managing authority approvals, compliance requirements and specialist consultant inputs.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in design budget management and value engineering.
