An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Finance Business Partner / APS6 Finance Officer to join a large Federal Government finance function on an initial 12-month engagement, with the possibility of extension.

Working as a key link between operational business areas and the CFO function, you will provide high-quality financial reporting, analysis and advice, with a strong focus on budget management, forecasting and project financial performance.

This role will particularly suit someone with strong public sector finance experience who is confident partnering with senior stakeholders and working across complex projects.

The opportunity
You will work closely with business stakeholders to provide meaningful financial insight and support sound financial decision‑making.
Your responsibilities will include:

- Finance business partnering across key business and project areas
- Budget preparation, forecasting and ongoing budget management
- Management and financial reporting
- Financial analysis and provision of high-quality advice
- Project accounting and financial project management
- Monitoring financial performance and identifying emerging issues
- Supporting financial activities in accordance with Commonwealth financial frameworks and accounting standards
- Providing analysis and recommendations to senior stakeholders
- Building effective relationships across finance and operational teams
- Contributing to a busy, deadline‑driven finance environment

What we're looking for
You will ideally be an experienced Finance Business Partner, Management Accountant,



Project Accountant or Senior Finance Officer with solid financial and management reporting capability.
To be successful, you will bring:

- Strong finance business partnering or management accounting experience
- Demonstrated budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis capability
- Strong project accounting experience
- Sound technical accounting knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven stakeholder management and influencing capability
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to deliver within tight timeframes
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders and providing financial advice

Highly regarded:

- Federal or broader public sector finance experience
- Project accounting within an IT or technology setting
- IT financial project management experience
- CA or CPA qualification, or currently working towards qualification
