The Role

If you are a senior services engineer on the consulting side, you may know the frustration of handing over a design without seeing how it performs during construction. This role gives you the opportunity to follow the work from design through to final commissioning.

Reporting to the Head of Design, you will take ownership of the building services component of the builder’s design management function. You will work within an established team rather than operating as a standalone technical resource.





You will typically manage the services design across around two active projects while providing technical support to selected live jobs.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading the services component of the company’s design management framework
- Coordinating mechanical, electrical and other building services disciplines
- Managing external services consultants and maintaining accountability around information, quality and deadlines
- Reviewing documentation for coordination, compliance, buildability and completeness
- Supporting procurement and the evaluation of services trade packages
- Working with project and site teams throughout installation and quality assurance
- Overseeing testing, commissioning and the resolution of technical issues
- Providing clear services advice to clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal delivery teams

This is considered the final piece in strengthening the builder’s design and construct capability. You will have genuine influence over how the function is established and how services are managed across future projects.

Join an established Melbourne commercial head contractor delivering a consistent portfolio of technically detailed new build and refurbishment projects in the $10M - $40M range

The business generally has around ten live projects at any one time. It's portfolio has strong exposure to institutional and government clients, supported by experienced delivery teams and structured construction systems.





The company has already built an established design management team and is continuing to strengthen its design and construct capability, delivering D&C; projects. This appointment will provide specialist building services leadership across both preconstruction and live delivery, while improving consistency from initial design through to commissioning.

Are you suitable?

This opportunity is likely to suit an Associate or Senior Associate from a building services or multidisciplinary engineering consultancy who is ready to move closer to construction.

You may have started your career in mechanical or electrical engineering, but you will now be accustomed to leading the complete building services design across your projects, rather than managing one narrow discipline.

You are likely to have:

- A mechanical or electrical engineering background, with broader multidisciplinary building services coordination experience
- Experience leading the complete services design across commercial, institutional or government projects
- Strong knowledge of Australian construction requirements, compliance and relevant standards
- Confidence managing external consultants and keeping design teams accountable
- Robust client-facing communication and the ability to explain technical matters clearly
- An understanding of how design decisions affect procurement, installation and commissioning

Previous head contractor experience is not essential, provided you have led multidisciplinary services design and are ready to apply your expertise across construction delivery.
