About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists create carefully designed examples, prompts, and evaluations that help models produce more accurate and useful answers. In this role, your engineering expertise will help evaluate whether AI systems can reason through realistic computational fluid dynamics problems.
- Fully remote freelance work
- Flexible scheduling with asynchronous collaboration
- Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge AI reasoning systems
- Work that combines engineering expertise with technical task design
The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking a CFD AI Training Task Designer to create compact engineering challenges focused on fluid dynamics reasoning. You will write self-contained problem statements, build deterministic scoring checkers, and provide verified reference solutions using your OpenFOAM expertise.
The role is fully remote and flexible, with a commitment of 20 or more hours per week. It is offered as part-time contractor work for candidates working in English from Australia.
- Pay: $80–$110 USD per hour
- Work type: Contractor and part-time
- Location: Australia, fully remote
- Language: English
- Experience level: Entry level
What You'll Do
You will design and validate tasks that test how AI models approach CFD and aerodynamics problems. Each task should be physically accurate, clearly written, objectively scored, and appropriate in difficulty.
- Design compact, self-contained CFD and aerodynamics tasks that test engineering reasoning
- Write unambiguous problems covering boundary-condition selection, mesh quality assessment, flow-regime identification, and simulation setup
- Develop deterministic scoring checkers that automatically evaluate a model's final answer
- Provide verified reference solutions confirming that each task is solvable and correctly scored
- Review and iterate on tasks for physical accuracy, clarity, and appropriate difficulty
- Work independently and asynchronously on your own schedule
Required Qualifications
This role requires practical CFD knowledge and the ability to explain complex physics with precision. A background in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is preferred at the BE/BSc level or higher.
- Hands-on experience with OpenFOAM
- Solid foundation in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and heat transfer fundamentals
- Comfort with mesh generation, turbulence modeling, boundary-condition specification,
and post-processing
- Ability to formulate exact, self-contained engineering problems for automated scoring
- Strong written communication skills for explaining complex physics clearly and concisely
- Background in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; BE/BSc or higher preferred
Preferred Experience
The following experience is helpful but not required. It can support more advanced task design, simulation automation, or evaluation work.
- Experience with multiple CFD solvers or multiphysics platforms
- Scripting or automation experience with Python, Bash, or MATLAB for simulation setup or post-processing
- Exposure to design optimization, flow-control strategies, or adjoint methods
- Graduate-level coursework or research in aerodynamics, propulsion, or computational methods
- Experience writing technical assessments, examination problems, or engineering challenges
Why Join OpenTrain
As an OpenTrain freelancer, you can build a portable portfolio while contributing directly to the development of AI reasoning capabilities.
