Job Description
Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-Operative – Health and Wellbeing Services now has the following vacancy at our Mooroopna Office:
n
Maternal Child Health Nurse
n
Full-time, 38 hours a week – 18 Months, Fixed Term
n

About the Role
n
The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Nurse delivers culturally safe, family-centred care to infants, young children, and their families, with a strong focus on improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
n
Through clinic-based services, proactive outreach programs, and home visiting,
the role supports early childhood development, strengthens parenting capacity, and fosters community connection to help children and families thrive.
n
Key responsibilities include:
n
n
- Deliver comprehensive MCH services including health assessments, growth and developmental monitoring, and anticipatory guidance from birth to school age
n
- Identify and respond to developmental delays, health concerns, and psychosocial risks
n
- Provide breastfeeding, nutrition, immunisation, and parenting support
n
- Conduct regular and as-needed home visits to families, prioritising Aboriginal children and families who may face barriers to accessing centre-based services
n
- Work collaboratively with Aboriginal Health Workers and community services to support holistic care
n
- Promote culturally appropriate health education and parenting support
n
n
About You
n
To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:
n
n
- Be a Registered Nurse and Midwife with a current AHPRA registration.
n
- Have demonstrated experience in maternal and child health, paediatrics, or community health
n
- A sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, values, parenting practices and issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
n
- Ability to coordinate with other team members and programs, and maintain interdisciplinary communication
n
- Demonstrated analytical, written and verbal skills, especially those required in management of client care and documentation
n
- Willingness and capacity to learn and to modify service approach in response to changing client needs, circumstances and feedback
n
- Proven computer skills, particularly in the use of program specific IT reporting system Communicare (or other relevant client management systems)
n
