Job Description

As a Tenancy Sustainment Specialist, you'll play a vital role in helping renters facing complex challenges maintain their tenancies, strengthen their independence and stay connected to the supports they need to thrive.

This is more than a tenancy management role. It's an opportunity to work alongside customers, support services and internal teams to prevent tenancy breakdown, reduce homelessness and create positive outcomes for individuals, families and communities.

This is a full-time permanent role, based in either ourBlackburn, Bendigo, Melbourne or Ballarat office, with a requirement to travel to each location when required. What you'll do
n
You'll work proactively with customers who may be experiencing complex circumstances, providing early intervention, coordinated support and practical solutions that help sustain successful tenancies.
n
You'll make an impact by:
n
n
- Identifying customers at risk of tenancy breakdown and developing tailored sustainment strategies.
n
- Providing trauma-informed, strengths-based support to customers experiencing challenges such as mental health concerns, family violence, hoarding and squalor, social isolation and other complex needs.
n
- Working collaboratively with Housing Officers and internal teams to respond early to tenancy issues and improve customer outcomes.
n
- Connecting customers with specialist services including mental health, disability, alcohol and other drug services, family violence support,
employment and community programs.
n
- Advocating for customers to access the services and supports they need to maintain safe and stable housing.
n
- Empowering customers to build independent living skills, strengthen tenancy capability and actively participate in their communities.
n
- Acting as an escalation point for complex tenancy matters referred by CHL teams.
n
- Building strong partnerships with community organisations and external stakeholders to deliver coordinated support.
n
- Identifying and responding appropriately to risks affecting customer wellbeing, property or community safety.
n
- Maintaining accurate case records and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen tenancy sustainment across CHL.

About you
n
You're passionate about improving people's lives and understand that sustaining a tenancy often requires compassion, collaboration and practical problem-solving.
n
You'll bring:
n
n
- Qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, Human Services or a related discipline, or significant equivalent experience (minimum three years) working in a similar role.
n
- Experience supporting people with complex or high support needs through person-centred, trauma-informed and strengths-based practice.
n
- Demonstrated experience developing support plans, coordinating referrals and working with customers experiencing complex social issues.
n
- Strong knowledge of community support services and referral pathways.
n
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work confidently with customers, support agencies and internal stakeholders.
n
- The ability to manage competing priorities while working independently and collaboratively.
n
- A genuine commitment to social justice, housing security and improving outcomes for vulnerable communities.
n
- A current Driver Licence (essential).
n
n
Appointments are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including National Police Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check. All pre-employment checks will be arranged during onboarding.
