2027 DSTG Industry Experience Placement Program

The Industry Experience Placement (IEP) program provides undergraduate students currently enrolled in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) degree the opportunity to complete a compulsory industry placement component as part of their degree. The IEP offers work placements of 12 months with Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG).

The IEP provides successful applicants with the opportunity to gain industry experience in a large research organisation. Successful applicants are supervised by DSTG staff, who work closely with the university to ensure that academic requirements are met.

Placements will commence in March 2027, however alternate start dates may be able to be negotiated.

The Role

The Industry Experience Placement (IEP) program provides undergraduate students currently enrolled in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) degree the prospect to complete a compulsory industry placement component as part of their degree. The IEP offers work placements of 12 months with Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG).

The key duties of the position include:

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.

Mandatory Qualifications:

To be eligible for the IEP you must:

- Be enrolled at an Australian tertiary institution;
- Have a degree requirement to undertake a 12-month practical placement with industry;
- Have completed a minimum of two (2) years of tertiary study (full-time or equivalent) before starting a project;
- Be available to undertake a full-time work placement between the advertised dates;
- Be an Australian citizen; and
- Be eligible to obtain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
