Job Description

Osborne Richardson is seeking an experienced Building Surveyor for a contract position, leading a small team of Building Inspectors, Pool Inspectors, and a Building Surveyor's Assistant/Cadet, while managing a varied caseload across residential, commercial and industrial building matters.

About the Role

n

You'll provide end-to-end leadership and mentoring to your team while carrying out core statutory functions under the Building Act and Building Regulations. This is a hands-on role that blends technical building surveying work with people leadership and process improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

n

- Providing leadership, mentoring and workload oversight to Building Inspectors, Pool Inspectors, and the Building Surveyor's Assistant/Cadet
n
- Working on detached building permits, plan checking and mandatory inspections
n
- Carrying out commercial audits, essential safety measure inspections, and non-compliant external cladding assessments
n
- Investigating complaints and taking enforcement action on illegal, non-compliant or unsafe building work
n
- Handling complex correspondence and customer complaints
n




- Providing sound compliance advice to developers, community members, employees and Councillors
n
- Maintaining building records in line with the Building Act 1993 and Building Regulations 2018
n
- Reviewing current practices and implementing process improvements
n
- Staying current on legislative changes and educating the team accordingly
n

About You

n

n
- Current registration as a Building Surveyor with the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC)
n
- Demonstrated experience in plan checking, mandatory inspections and building compliance/enforcement across residential and commercial buildings
n
- Proven supervisory or leadership experience, with a track record of mentoring and developing a team
n
- Sound knowledge of construction techniques across all building classes
n
- Robust financial acumen with experience managing budgets
n
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
n
- A current Victorian driver's licence
n
