Job Description
The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation is a Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) appointed under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic.). We represent the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Traditional Owners of Melbourne and the Greater Melbourne region and take outstanding pride in our responsibility for protecting and managing Aboriginal cultural heritage objects and places on Wurundjeri Country.

The Corporation provides a range of cultural services, including environmental land management, cross-cultural education, traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremonies, research, and cultural consultations.

The Narrap Unit
n
The Narrap Unit is the dedicated Caring for Country unit of WWCHAC. The unit incorporates two distinct but connected programs – the Ranger Program and the Water Program – and centres itself on asserting and maintaining Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung cultural rights and responsibilities of protecting and caring for Country. The unit also creates opportunities for Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and other First Nations people to have culturally meaningful, secure work that supports professional development and the continued management of country.

The Role - Narrap Ranger (Location: Healesville/Craigieburn)
n
The Ranger Program is focused on delivering Country restoration and management work - healing Country guides our program. Through our skilled and experienced team, the Ranger Program embeds Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country management principles and practices in Natural Resource Management (NRM). We work with an array of different clients including state government agencies and water corporations, LGAs, non-profits and the private sector. Importantly, our Ranger Program includes a path for First Nations people to develop careers in the environmental management.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Work as part of a team to manage a range of environmental and natural resources, including:
n
- Restoration and regeneration of landscapes, including planting and environmental weed control
n
- Monitoring fauna and flora habitats ahead of land management activities
n
- Track maintenance and fire track slashing and clearing
n
- Works reporting
n
- Delivery of the Narrap Unit Fire program
n
- Take direction from Crew Leaders to ensure high-quality work on Country.
n
- Ensure management are informed of any barriers faced to delivering work.
n
- Adhere to all OHS processes and procedures required.
n
- Assist in mentoring Narrap Ranger trainees.
n
- Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with the Wurundjeri Elders, Wurundjeri staff and other stakeholders as required to perform your role.
n
- Advocate for Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung rights and interests as Traditional Owners and act as a role model for the Wurundjeri Corporation in all that you do.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
n
n
- Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management
n
- Chemcert or ACUP
n
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence (and transportation) and ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicle
n
- Construction OHS Induction card (White/Red Card)
n
- Chainsaw Level 1. Operate and Maintain Chainsaws (desirable)
n
- Ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicle
n
- High-level communication,
written and customer service skills
n
- Able to identify indigenous and exotic flora species
n
- Knowledge of best practice environmental standards for both workplace and residential settings
n
- Demonstrated strong track record in Conservation/Land Management, preferable within Victoria
n
- A high level of knowledge and experience in environmental and natural resource management techniques, including herbicide applications using knapsacks and high-volume rig equipment, hand weeding, woody weed removal, revegetation works, brush cutting and GPS mapping
n
- Reasonable knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal cultures and matters, including cultural safety and social issues
n
- Comfortable to work in all weather conditions, depending on the tasks required
n
- Comfortable with the demanding physical requirements of the role
n
