Job Description
We are seeking a motivated, experienced and hands-on Assistant Cropping Manager to join our progressive family-owned mixed farming enterprise.
n
This is a full-time leadership position suited to someone who enjoys broadacre and intensive cropping, takes pride in producing quality work, and is looking for a long-term opportunity to grow within a diverse farming business.

Located just 20 minutes from Sale, you'll enjoy the best of both worlds—rural living with easy access to shopping, healthcare, schools and sporting facilities. Primary and secondary school buses service a choice of K–12 schools, while the Ninety Mile Beach and Gippsland Lakes are right on your doorstep. For those who enjoy winter sports, the Victorian snowfields are only a couple of hours away.

Key Responsibilities
n
Cropping Operations
n
n
- Assist in planning and implementing the annual cropping program.
n
- Operate and oversee modern machinery for seeding, spraying, fertiliser application, hay production and harvest.
n
- Monitor crop establishment, growth and performance.
n
- Assist with irrigation scheduling and management where applicable.
n
- Ensure all operations are completed safely, efficiently and within seasonal timeframes.
n
n
Machinery & Equipment
n
n
- Operate modern GPS-guided machinery and precision agriculture technology.
n
- Carry out routine servicing and preventative maintenance.
n
- Identify maintenance requirements and coordinate repairs to minimise downtime.
n
- Maintain machinery service records and schedules.
n
- Apply chemicals and fertilisers in accordance with label directions and farm plans.
n
- Maintain chemical inventory and compliant storage systems.
n
- Ensure all applications meet Australian safety and environmental regulations.
n
- Keep accurate spray and fertiliser records.
n
n
Leadership
n
n
- Supervise seasonal employees and contractors.
n
- Assist with staff training and onboarding.
n
- Lead by example with a positive attitude and solid work ethic.
n
- Assume responsibility for cropping operations during the Cropping Manager's absence.
n
n
Planning & Administration
n
n
- Maintain accurate production and paddock records.
n
- Monitor input usage and minimise waste.
n
- Assist with budgeting and ordering seed, fertiliser and chemicals.
n
- Report crop progress, machinery issues and operational requirements.
n
n
General Farm Duties
n
n
- Fence construction and repairs.
n
- General property maintenance.
n
- Assist with livestock operations during peak periods where required.
n
n
Skills & Experience
n
n
- A minimum of 3–5 years' broadacre cropping experience.
n
- Experience operating modern tractors, seeders, sprayers and harvest equipment.
n
- Experience with GPS guidance and precision agriculture systems.
n
- Current chemical accreditation (or willingness to obtain).
n
- HR Licence (MC Licence and loader experience highly regarded).
n
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot machinery.
n
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
n
- The ability to work independently while confidently leading others.
n
