About the company/role:
n
This organisation operates at the forefront of advanced laser technology development and commercialisation, based in Lucas Heights. The Laser Scientist role sits within the technology program, supporting cutting-edge laser systems development. You will contribute to system integration and photonics development across laser facilities. This role offers hands-on involvement in R&D;, production support, and technology scale-up within a highly specialised scientific environment.

This hands on role would suit an early stage graduate physicist.
n
If you are completing studies, honours/MSc etc, initial part time work can be considered.
n
Key Responsibilities:
n
- Operate, maintain, and optimise laser systems and associated support equipment
n
- Set up and align free-space laser transport optics and perform optical engineering tasks
n
- Support technology maturation activities including performance optimisation and reliability improvements
n
- Assist with development of operating procedures, technical documentation, and reporting
n
- Perform laboratory measurements, run test campaigns, and analyse data
n
- Support daily laser facility operations, including start-up and shutdown procedures
n
- Maintain laboratory equipment,
manage optical component inventory, and ensure a safe working environment
n
- Provide general technical and operational support to senior technical staff
n
Skills/experience:
n
- Recent BSc / MSc in Physics
n
- Experience working with laser systems (industry or academia) through honours minimum
n
- Knowledge of laser system operation, maintenance, and optical alignment (visible/invisible beams) ideal
n
- Experience with measurement instruments such as beam profilers, spectrometers, and oscilloscopes
n
- Data analysis capability using MATLAB, Mathematica, Excel, or similar tools
n
- Solid written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative approach
n
- High attention to detail, organisation, and ability to manage multiple priorities
n
- Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of tasks from concept to delivery
n
- Australian citizenship essential and eligibility to obtain and maintain a national security clearance
n
