The Role
n We are seeking a VMware Subject Matter Expert (SME)



to provide technical leadership across large-scale virtualisation environments supporting critical government systems in Canberra.

n

This role will act as the senior VMware authority within the team, providing strategic guidance, architecture input, platform optimisation, and technical leadership while remaining hands-on across the VMware technology stack.

n

Key Responsibilities

n

n
- Provide subject matter expertise across enterprise VMware platforms.
n
- Lead design, implementation, optimisation, and lifecycle management activities.
n
- Provide technical leadership for VMware-related projects and infrastructure initiatives.
n
- Support architecture reviews and infrastructure uplift activities.
n
- Lead platform health assessments, scalability reviews, and performance optimisation.
n
- Provide escalation support for complex technical issues.
n
- Work closely with infrastructure, security, networking, and project teams.
n
- Develop and maintain technical standards, documentation, and best practices.
n
- Mentor engineers and contribute to capability uplift across the broader team.
n
- Support infrastructure modernisation and transformation programs.
n

What You'll Need

n

n
- Extensive experience designing and supporting VMware enterprise environments.
n
- Robust expertise across VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
n
- Experience with technologies such as vSAN, NSX, VMware Aria/vROps, Horizon, or VMware Cloud Foundation.
n
- Demonstrated experience leading VMware infrastructure projects.
n
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure architecture.
n
- Experience operating within secure government or defence environments.
n
- Strong stakeholder engagement and technical leadership skills.
n
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
n
- Ability to mentor engineers and provide technical direction.
n
