Job Description
- Location: Newcastle / Regional NSW (Hybrid / Remote with occasional local NDIS office visits)

- Work Type: Full-time hours preferred (Part-time considered at 3 - 4 days minimum)

- Contract Start: Monday, 13 July 2026

- Pay rate: $61.86 p/h + Super
n
- Note on Registration: Active professional registration (e.g., AHPRA) is not required, but you must hold a verified, Australian-accepted qualification.

About the Role
n
Are you an empathetic clinical, allied health, or education professional with a knack for deep listening and clinical reasoning?
n
Our Federal Government client is launching a national testing program and is seeking agile, high-performing professionals to join them as Support Needs Assessors. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive support needs assessments via semi-structured, conversational interviews with NDIS participants.
n
You will be responsible for reviewing files, conducting virtual or face-to-face assessments, and writing high-quality, strengths-based reports that clearly capture a participant's life situation and needs. Please note: This role focuses strictly on assessment and reporting; you will not make funding, budget, or support hour determinations.
n
Key Responsibilities:
n
- Conduct and Synthesise Assessments: Gather information directly from participants and their representatives, analysing and interpreting external evidence to make evidence-based recommendations.
n
- Report Writing & Case Management: Prepare explicit, accurate, objective,
and defensible written assessment reports using digital case management tools.
n
- Person-Centred Communication: Communicate clearly, respectfully, and empathetically through both face-to-face and virtual channels, utilising trauma-informed and culturally aware approaches.
n
- Collaboration & Escalation: Work across teams to support planning processes, identifying and escalating complex risks or policy limitations when necessary.
n
Skills & Experience Required:
n
We are looking for a diverse mix of backgrounds. To be successful, you must have:
n
- Mandatory Qualifications: A recognised tertiary qualification in Allied Health (such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, Social Work, Counselling, Dietetics, etc.) or a relevant clinical/educational discipline (RN, EN, Education degree, or Behaviour Support Practitioner). Note: Students part-way through their qualifications who possess significant, recent assessment experience may also be considered.
n
- Assessment Expertise: Proven experience administering support needs assessments or utilizing person-centred/strengths-based assessment frameworks. Experience with semi-structured interviews is highly regarded.
n
- Communication & Writing:
Advanced interpersonal skills to navigate complex, sensitive conversations, paired with strong analytical writing skills to produce clear, defensible reports.
n
- Clinical Practice: A deep commitment to trauma-informed, culturally safe, and person-centered practices.
n
- Tech Literacy: Digital literacy to navigate CRM case management systems and conduct video meetings (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
n
