Job Description

Melbourne Truck and Vans is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Yard Hand to join our team at our Preston location. This is a full time position based on-site at our dealership, where you will play a crucial role in maintaining our vehicle inventory and ensuring our yard operates efficiently. As Yard Man, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our vehicle yard, contributing directly to the professional presentation and operational success of our used vehicle dealership.

What you'll be doing

- Receiving, inspecting and cataloguing incoming vehicles to the yard
n
- Performing routine vehicle maintenance tasks including washing, detailing and preparing vehicles for sale
n
- Conducting basic mechanical checks and identifying any maintenance or repair requirements
n
- Moving and parking vehicles within the yard safely and efficiently
n
- Maintaining accurate records of vehicle inventory and yard movements
n
- Ensuring the yard is kept clean, organised and presentable at all times
n
- Assisting with vehicle recovery, relocation and repositioning as required
n
- Supporting the sales team with vehicle demonstrations and test drive preparation
n
- Performing general yard maintenance and tidying tasks
n
- Following all health and safety protocols and company procedures
n

What we're looking for

- A valid Australian driver's licence with a clean driving record
n
- Previous experience in an automotive environment, yard management or similar trade role
n




- Mechanical knowledge and the ability to identify vehicle defects or maintenance issues
n
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour tasks regularly
n
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
n
- Reliability and a strong work ethic with a commitment to punctuality
n
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
n
- Good communication skills and a professional demeanour when interacting with customers
n
- Willingness to learn and develop skills within the automotive industry
n
- Experience operating forklifts or other yard machinery is advantageous but not essential
n
