Mechanical Tradespeople – Transition into HDD & Civil Construction

Are you a fitter, mechanic, diesel mechanic, mechanical tradesperson or experienced contractor who is ready to move away from working on the tools all day?
n
Maxibor is seeking mechanically minded people who want to apply their practical skills in a different environment and develop a career in Horizontal Directional Drilling and civil construction.
n
This opportunity may suit someone who enjoys working with large plant and machinery, solving practical problems and working as part of a project team, but is looking for greater variety than traditional workshop, servicing or repair work.
n
The Company
n
Maxibor is one of Australia's leading Horizontal Directional Drilling contractors. We operate a large fleet of small, mid-sized and maxi drilling rigs, along with a broad range of specialised supporting equipment.
n
We provide HDD design and construction services across Australia in the water, gas, power, rail and telecommunications sectors.
n
Due to our growing project pipeline, we are seeking additional crew members for current and upcoming projects throughout Australia.
n
Applicants must be willing to work away from home and travel between project locations as required. Project rosters, locations and durations may vary depending on operational requirements.
n
The Opportunity
n
This is not a traditional workshop mechanic position.
n
You will use your mechanical knowledge, practical problem-solving skills and experience around plant and equipment to support HDD and civil construction operations.
n
Training and support will be provided to suitable candidates who have the right attitude, mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
n
Your trade and mechanical experience will be highly valued, particularly your ability to:
n
n
- understand how plant and machinery operate;
n
- identify and resolve mechanical or operational issues;
n
- work safely around heavy equipment;
n
- follow procedures and technical instructions;
n
- work effectively as part of a crew; and
n
- adapt to changing project and site conditions.
n
n
Key Responsibilities
n
Depending on your experience and training, duties may include:
n
n
- supporting horizontal directional drilling operations;
n
- assisting with the setup and operation of drilling equipment;
n
- operating plant, machinery and support vehicles;
n
- tracking and locating drilling activities;
n
- operating non-destructive digging equipment;
n
- locating and working around underground utility services;
n
- site establishment, maintenance and reinstatement;
n
- completing general civil construction activities;
n
- carrying out basic inspections and preventative maintenance;
n
- identifying equipment issues and assisting with minor repairs;
n
- completing daily project and safety documentation; and
n
- following Maxibor's safety, environmental and quality procedures.
n
n
Skills and Experience
n
We are interested in hearing from applicants with experience as a:
n
n
- mechanical fitter;
n
- diesel mechanic;
n
- plant mechanic;
n
- heavy vehicle mechanic;
n
- mobile plant technician;
n
- maintenance fitter;
n
- mechanical trades assistant; or
n
- mechanically experienced contractor or plant operator.
n
n
Previous HDD experience is not required for candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and the right attitude.
n
Essential Requirements
n
Applicants must have:
n
n
- a Construction White Card, or be willing to obtain one before commencing;
n
- a current unrestricted driver licence;
n
- a willingness to obtain an HR truck licence;
n
- a willingness and ability to work away from home on projects throughout Australia;
n
- flexibility to work project-based rosters and hours;
n
- the ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening;
n
- a strong commitment to workplace safety; and
n
- the ability to undertake physically demanding work.
n
n
Highly Regarded
n
The following experience or qualifications would be beneficial but are not essential:
n
n
- an existing HR, HC or MC truck licence;
n
- excavator or other plant operating tickets;
n
- experience operating or maintaining heavy plant;
n
- hydraulic, electrical or mechanical fault-finding experience;
n
- experience working around live underground services;
n
- civil construction or infrastructure experience;
n
- non-destructive digging experience;
n
- pit and pipe installation experience; or
n
- previous HDD or drilling experience.
n
