About The Role

n

Our client is a QLD government organisation based in Maroochydore QLD. They are currently seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to come in and joint their team based on a temp contract opportunity until 10th December with possible extensions.

n

The successful candidate will possess:

n

n
- Relevant qualification (Degree) in accounting with CA or CPA accreditation, and relevant experience in local government or a similarly complex environment.
n
- Technical accounting capability, including interpreting standards, preparing financial statements, and developing defensible accounting positions
n
- Experience improving audit outcomes and addressing audit findings or control deficiencies
n
- Previous local or state government experience
n

Key responsibilities include:

n

n
- Audit Management & Resolution: Lead and coordinate both external and internal audit processes, serving as the primary finance contact while using a risk-based approach to track, investigate, and resolve audit findings and control gaps efficiently.
n
- Technical Accounting & Advisory: Prepare high-quality, well-supported technical accounting papers and provide robust analysis and professional challenge to existing financial approaches to guide sound management decision-making.
n
- Asset Management & Financial Forecasting:



Monitor and integrate financial accounting inputs into asset management programs and enhance asset-related data within the Long-Term Financial Model to improve transparency, risk management, and assumption accuracy.
n
- Financial Governance & Control Improvement: Drive continuous improvement across financial reporting, internal control frameworks, and finance processes to ensure operational efficiency, data integrity, and alignment with standards.
n
- Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Represent Finance in organisational forums and build cooperative, trusted relationships with internal stakeholders to build confidence in financial outcomes.
n
- Capability Building & Team Mentorship: Uplift the technical capability of the broader finance team by setting clear expectations, delivering guidance, and modeling high standards of technical and professional practice.
