We are working with a market leading heavy machinery manufacturer in their search for an experienced Quality Assurance Lead. As the Quality Assurance Lead, you will be responsible for owning, leading and coordinating the quality function across the business, ensuring practical quality control, supplier quality assurance, audit compliance, client documentation and continuous improvement are embedded into daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands on leadership on the shop floor, working directly with production, engineering, project management, procurement and supply chain teams.
- Mentor and manage direct reports across audit and compliance activities, safety partnership and shop floor quality control.
- Expand the quality function from traditional machine-part inspection to broader production, assembly, supplier, process and documentation quality requirements.
- Work with project managers and engineers to ensure customer, project and contract specific quality requirements are met.
- Provide leadership and support to the safety partner, ensuring safety systems, quality systems and operational practices are aligned.
- Maintain a controlled and auditable quality management framework that supports ISO compliance and operational effectiveness.
- Provide clear quality status, risks, issues and improvement recommendations to operational leaders.
- Own and maintain the quality and safety digital platforms and the content housed within each system.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality management or tertiary qualifications in a related field.
- Proven leadership experience in quality assurance, quality control or quality management within an industrial manufacturing, heavy engineering, rail or project based environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with an inquisitive mindset and the ability to understand practical production, assembly, supplier and inspection issues.
- Experience managing quality documentation, inspection records, ITPs, traceability records and client handover documentation.
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop team members across quality and safety related functions.
- Experience leading or coordinating audits, corrective actions, non-conformance management and ISO quality system requirements.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems and internal or external audit programs.
