Data Scientist | Fixed Income Investment Team

Sydney CBD, NSW | Full-time | On-site (5 days/week)

Base salary up to $130,000 + Super

Bonus up to 50% of annual salary + potential equity offered for this role

IMPORTANT NOTE: The client requires candidates to have a minimum of 99% ATAR in college or 85% WAM (Weighted Average Mark) from an AU/UK/USA/New Zealand high school/college. (Other colleges or high schools not considered.)

Our client is a rapidly growing fixed income fund manager with approximately 60 professionals, including an 11-person Data Science team, building sophisticated quantitative research and data science capabilities.

n

They are looking for an exceptional Data Scientist to join their Sydney-based team. This is a research and engineering-intensive role where you'll work alongside Portfolio Managers and the Head of Data Science to develop models, build production-grade systems, and solve complex quantitative problems that directly influence investment decisions.

The Role

n

As a Data Scientist, you will:

n

n
- Develop statistical and machine learning models for fixed income markets.
n
- Build, test and improve quantitative research pipelines.
n
- Work with large, complex datasets from multiple sources.
n
- Back-test investment models and benchmark research against leading academic literature.
n
- Productionise research into scalable, maintainable systems.
n
- Produce intuitive data visualisations and clearly communicate technical findings.
n
- Collaborate closely with the Data Science team and Portfolio Managers to drive innovation.
n

No prior financial markets experience is required — our client is looking for exceptional quantitative thinkers.

n

About You

n

Successful candidates will demonstrate:





n

n
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a highly quantitative Engineering discipline.
n
- 1–2 years of commercial experience in a data-related role (graduate applications will not be considered).
n
- Outstanding academic achievement, ideally including:
n
- 99+ ATAR
n
- 85+ WAM
n
- Strong statistical modelling and data analysis capabilities.
n
- Experience using R, Python, SQL or similar data analysis tools (experience with the R tidyverse ecosystem is highly regarded).
n
- Solid software engineering practices when contributing to shared codebases.
n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
n
- A collaborative mindset, intellectual curiosity, and strong work ethic.
n
