Hardware Engineer - Power Generation & Control Systems

About the Role We are seeking an experienced Hardware Engineer to support a major power generation control systems upgrade and modernisation project.
n
Working within a brownfield operating plant environment, you will be responsible for the design, engineering, and implementation of hardware solutions supporting distributed control systems (DCS), instrumentation and control (I&C;) systems, and plant automation infrastructure.
n
This is an opportunity to play a key role throughout the project lifecycle, from detailed engineering and design through to testing, commissioning, and plant start-up activities. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to remain engaged during the commissioning phase, providing continuity and technical expertise as the new system is brought online.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Deliver hardware engineering solutions for power plant automation and control system upgrade projects.
n
- Support brownfield migration and modernisation programs within operating power generation facilities.
n
- Produce and review detailed engineering documentation and design packages.
n
- Design and modify control cubicles, marshalling cabinets, junction boxes, and associated I&C; infrastructure.
n
- Develop and maintain:n n
- Signal Lists and Channel Allocation Schedules
n
- General Arrangement (GA) Drawings
n
- Power Supply Schematics
n
- Wiring Diagrams
n
- Loop Diagrams
n
- Termination Diagrams
n
- Network Architecture Drawings
n
n
- Apply system segregation, redundancy, and spare capacity principles.
n
- Support field instrumentation integration and control loop design.
n
- Prepare installation workscope packages and construction documentation, including:n
n
- Cable Pull Sheets
n
- Cable Termination Schedules
n
- Junction Box Modifications
n
- Marshalling Cabinet Modifications
n
- Field Device Installation Packages
n
n
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, cutover, and start-up activities.
n
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and engineering standards.
n

Safety Systems Highly regarded experience with:

- Turbine Safety Instrumented Systems (TSIS)
n
- Boiler Safety Instrumented Systems (BSIS)
n
- Functional Safety Management (FSM)
n
- Safety-critical control systems
n

About You You will bring:
n
n
- Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related discipline.
n
- Demonstrated experience within the power generation sector.
n
- Strong hardware engineering and detailed design experience in industrial automation or control systems environments.
n
- Experience delivering DCS, I&C;, or power plant upgrade and migration projects.
n
- Proven capability producing detailed engineering deliverables and construction documentation.
n
- Experience supporting commissioning, testing, plant outages, or start-up activities.
n
- Strong stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
n
- Ability to work independently within a project delivery environment.
n
n
Highly Desirable
n
n
- Direct experience with Siemens Omnivise T3000 / SPPA-T3000.
n
- Experience with Siemens S7-400H and ET200SP HA platforms.
n
- COMOS (Scorpio) experience.
n
- Coal-fired power station experience.
n
- Brownfield upgrade or migration project experience.
n
- Knowledge of KKS standards.
n
- Experience transitioning competitor DCS platforms to Siemens-based solutions.
n
