Job Description

JP Civil Group Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Driller to join our dynamic construction team. This is a full-time position based in Bradfield, NSW. As a Horizontal Directional Driller, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining specialised drilling equipment to install underground utilities. This role is critical to the successful delivery of our infrastructure projects and requires a skilled operator with a strong commitment to safety and precision.

Key responsibilities

n

Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with project specifications and site requirements

n

Set up drilling rigs, including alignment, levelling and connection of drilling components

n

Conduct pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance on drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance

n

Monitor drilling progress, fluid pressure, torque and other critical parameters throughout operations

n

Navigate bore paths accurately using guidance systems and technology to meet project tolerances

n

Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors and other trades to ensure seamless project execution

n

Maintain detailed records of drilling operations, including bore logs and equipment performance data

n

Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including the implementation of safe work method statements and risk assessments

n

Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs when required

n

Assist with site cleanup and ensure compliance with environmental standards

n

What we're looking for

n





A current Heavy Rigid (HR) or Heavy Combination (HC) driver's license

n

Minimum 3–5 years of verified experience operating horizontal directional drilling equipment on construction sites

n

Comprehensive knowledge of boring techniques, drilling fluids and navigation systems

n

Sound understanding of health and safety requirements relevant to drilling operations

n

Competency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and bore specifications

n

Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform equipment maintenance and troubleshooting

n

Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with site teams

n

Physical fitness and ability to work in varying weather conditions and outdoor environments

n

A demonstrated commitment to safety practices and a positive safety record

n

Relevant certifications such as Competency in HDD operations or equivalent industry qualifications would be advantageous
