Job Description

As a full-time Painter at Higgins Coatings, you will be responsible for carrying out commercial painting, repainting, protective coating, and building maintenance work across a range of commercial, industrial, government, education, healthcare, and residential projects. The role requires all painting activities to be completed safely, efficiently, and to the high-quality standards expected by Higgins Coatings, while complying with Australian Standards, project specifications, and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.

Task & responsibilities

n

n
- Surface preparation for painting including cleaning, sanding, patching, caulking, plastering and rendering.
n
- Applying different types of coatings including protective coatings, texture coatings, waterproofing systems, two-pack coatings, epoxy coatings, enamels and other specialised finishes.
n
- Selecting and preparing the appropriate painting products, materials, tools and equipment for each project.
n
- Mixing and preparing paints, primers and coatings to the required colours and specifications in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
n
- Maintaining painting tools, equipment and spray machinery in good working condition.
n
- Ensuring that the job site is kept neat, clean and protected throughout the project.
n
- Communicating with clients, supervisors and other trades as required.
n
- Attending toolbox meetings.
n
- Correctly selecting and operating the tools and equipment for the job, including brushes, scrapers, pressure washers, spray equipment, rollers and other painting equipment.
n
- Prepare surfaces for painting using heat guns, pressure washers, grinding, sanding, mechanical and manual scraping, washing down and chemical stripping techniques.
n
- Apply paints, primers, sealers, varnishes,



stains and specialised coatings using brushes, rollers and spray painting equipment.

- Carry out commercial repainting, refurbishment, maintenance painting and protective coating works in accordance with project specifications.
n
- Paint surfaces in accordance with customer requirements, project specifications and company quality standards.
n
- Working from scaffolds and assisting with erecting and dismantling scaffolding up to 4 metres in accordance with safety requirements.
n
- If licenced, operate elevated work platforms such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, knuckle booms and truck-mounted work platforms in line with SWMS.
n
- If licenced, conduct Rope Access Technician work in accordance with SWMS and Australian Standards.

Qualification & experience

- Trade qualified – Certificate III in Painting and Decorating.
n
- Commercial painting experience.
n
- Experience in commercial painting and protective coating systems.
n
- Construction (White) Card.
n
- Able to work in a team environment.
n
- Able to take and follow instructions.
n
- Proven attention to detail.
n
- Takes pride in work.
n
- Can meet deadlines.
n
- Able to perform physical work both indoors and outdoors.
n
- Strong commitment to Workplace Health and Safety procedures.
